Maine Coon cats have medium-long fur and their origin is natural. They are considered to be the biggest representatives of domestic cats- some of them weigh over ten kilograms and are over 1 meter long, which is nothing seldom in case of this breed.
Despite their impressive size, Maine Coons are extremely calm with balanced temper which is why they are able to establish very friendly and warm contact with their custodians. They are extraordinary friendly, patient and extremely intelligent. These cats are bred in tens of colours excluding the pointed Siamese pattern only.
The captivating life style of Maine Coons and the silent and gentle sounds produced by them, resembling „chirping trill or cooing”- which do not fit their size- distinguish them from all other cats.
Maine Coon has strong, muscular limbs, proportional to their big, round tufted feet. The characteristic feature of the breed is the head with well shaped square muzzle, strong chin and relatively log and broad nose. Slightly oval, broadly-spaced eyes may be of any colour. Highly seated, big ears have tip ends with Lynx-like tufting. Their very long, fluffy tail resembles a plume. Maine Coons’ fur is heavy and thick, longer on the stomach and britches with delicate undercoat and shiny top coat. These biggest pedigree cats are very popular in our country at present.
They are very intelligent and easy-to-learn, therefore they can be easily taught to walk on a leash. They are not afraid of water, as their thick fur is water and cold resistant, and at home the cats love to play with water drops falling from a tap. Maine Coon queens are perfect mothers.
Despite the fact that Maine Coon cats are big, their size and weight are not the most important for evaluation of the exterior (a set of exterior morphological features of an animal characteristic for the given species, breed, type).
